Keeping the news up to date, writing stories, putting our activities down on paper over the last 10 years hasn't been that easy but now we're into our second decade it's time to start sharing our stories.

    On Sunday the 20th of April the Rats Lifepak 1000 Defibrillator was used for the first time in "anger".
  • RATS Cliff Dale Champs — 12/04/08
    On Saturday 12 April the RATS team again won the Cliff Dale rescue competitions held at the Omaka Scout Camp in Christchurch. See Slideshow.
  • Rats be Dammed! — 9/04/08
    On weekend 5 and 6 April 2008 the team headed again to the Meridian Energy dams in the Waitaki Valley.
  • USAR Search Dog Training - Auckland — 26/02/08
    On Friday 22 February Linda, Brenda, Janelle and Graham all headed to Auckland with their respective dogs: Que, Keepa, Cairo and Tala for the USAR Search Dog Association Regional Training Weekend.
  • Search Dog Success — 31/10/07
    RATS dog team enjoy a successful certification weekend.
  • Reconnaisance in reverse! — 16/08/07
    On Wednesday night RATS training had an interesting twist.
  • Good morning of training! — 11/08/07
    James organised training for Saturday morning 11 August. It started out as a typical morning - people arriving in "RAT time" (i.e. about 10 minutes late) most with takeaway coffees in hand. Ended up being 15 of us which is a great turn out.
  • Rakaia Puppy Rescue — 5/08/07
    On Friday we had a call from the SPCA regarding a report of 2 puppies being sighted stuck down a cliff in the Rakaia Gorge.
  • National USAR Search Dog Training Weekend — 10/07/07
    On 6-8 July 2007 Brenda (and Boss) Linda (and Que) Janelle (and Cairo) and Graham (and Tala) headed to Auckland to join other handlers from around the country for the third national USAR Search Dog Training Weekend.
  • Coastguard Exercise in Lyttelton — 17/06/07
    On Saturday 16th of June the Coastguard organised an exercise which incorporated most of the South Island Coastguard groups, the Police, St Johns Ambulance, Fire Service, Civil Defence, The Salvation Army, Westpac Helicoptor and search planes.
  • Rat Weekend Away to the West Coast — 19/05/07
    On the weekend of the 12-13th of May a group of Rats headed to the Coast to learn more about mine and cave rescue techniques.
  • USAR Training at Johns Rd rubble pile — 7/04/07
    On Wednesday the 4th of April the RATS had a USAR training session at a Johns Rd rubble pile.
  • Le Race 2007 — 6/04/07
    Le Race is an annual cycle race from Christchurch to Akaroa. It is an annual fund raising event for the RATS in which we provide additional safety and communication support.
  • Swift Water Rescue Course — 24/02/07
    Swift-Water Rescue Course. Over the last two to three years the RATS have been building up their capability in Swift-Water Rescue (SWR).
  • Coast to Coast — 13/02/07
    On Saturday 10 Feb the RATS again provided medical and safety support on the river section of the Speights Coast to Coast.
  • Recent Search Dog Success — 16/11/06
    RATS search dog team members have been integral in 2 national assessments held in the last month- one for USAR and the other for Wilderness search.
  • Nelson Exercise — 12/11/06
    A Combined general rescue exercise in Nelson with NZRT-2 and NZRT-9. The weekend was a very large but very successful mass casualty exercise for all involved.
