Rats.co.nzSpecialist First Response Team to the Canterbury Region

Become A Rat!

The RATS team is always looking for more skilled and keen volunteers to join them.

We have a recruitment philosophy that focuses on individuals with a can do attitude, the ability to fit into the team and the willingness to commit to the training schedule.

You don't have to come to the group with rescue skills but if you are interested you will be required to go through the necessary courses to become a USAR Responder. We'll develop your other skills from there.

We have to rely on each other in extreme circumstances so we are selective.

Essential qualities:

  • Team Player
  • Can have fun but also know when to draw the line
  • Can do attitude
  • Relatively fit (we rely on gravity a lot)
  • Willingness to learn
  • Live in the Canterbury area (but able to come to training in Christchurch)

If you're still interested - fill out the form below and we'll get in touch. It would be useful to let us know why you want to become a RAT (It's not a test and we don't want essays.)

If you don't live in Canterbury you could look up the other NZRT Team in your area. Here's a list of the other teams
